Looking to get into sports betting?

Want to learn about placing bets on sports? Here’s what you need to know.

So you’ve decided to start betting on sporting events–well, good for you. Without any doubt, there is some serious money in this business and anyone can start making it given that they know a few things about the process first, though. Here are a few tips that can help you get closer to that level of winning!

Favorites vs. underdogs

When a betting line on a particular game is about to begin, the oddsmaker (the person who is keeping track of your bets and wagers) will decide which competitor should be the ‘favorite’ and which one should be the ‘underdog.’ The favorite competitor is expected to win, so the odds are lower for the underdogs, but that’s where your perceived better judgment comes into play…sometimes you may be rooting for the underdog.

Point spreads are usually used and it is an indicator of the bet made on the margin of victory. If you choose to bet on a favorite, then it will lose points to your final score while the underdogs will gain points. For example, if you bet on a favorite of +4 and your team wins by only 3, you will not have covered the spread and would hold a losing ticket. However, if your team had won by 5 or more, you would be a happy bettor.
